Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All
Ms U. hasn't posted her full commentary just yet, but MIGHT be because he "blamed" the 9-11 attack on US, the US of A, for having been continuing to "bomb Iraq" for last 10 years? Might be because he apparently thinks that somehow we (USA) were asking to be attacked, and views the terror attacks as a response to OUR misdeeds? Giuliani, thankfully, was there to offer prompt and timely corrective instruction. Oh, and by the way, if his 10 years of bombing is to be calculated correctly, that would start in 1997? Who was the President in 1997? What administration would Ron Paul be referring to?
We invaded Iraq, by mistake no less, in response to 9/11, didn't we? Are we the only people who do things in response to something else?
I'm sorry if it hurt your delicate feelings to have had someone actually talk about world events like an adult (and without insulting your intelligence).
I'm not here defending Clinton, who was one of a long line of US Presidents - Republican & Democrat - who felt compelled to act like the world's policeman. Quit trying to derail the conversation.
Why do you think we were hit on 9/11?
Do you have any evidence whatsoever to back up your assertion? Why didn't al Qaeda hit the hedonistic and free Swedish?
To point out what may not be known to you, apparently one of the reasons bin Laden started attacking the US (prior to GW even becoming President) was the presence of US military bases in Saudi Arabia. After 9/11, the US quietly relocated those bases to other areas outside of SA but still in the Gulf region. I'm not sure if you consider that cutting-and-running, but someone in the US gov't connected the dots and realized that having US bases in the country that hosts Islam's holiest site resulted in "blowback".
No, we didnt invade Iraq in response to 9-11. We invaded Afghanistan because of linkages to terror networks that included Al Quaida and Taliban, AND the linkage with Osama Bin Laden and the 9-11 attacks. And we liberated a country from Taliban rule.
We didnt invade IRAQ "by mistake." We invaded Iraq as end result of years of effort to stop his posturing and WMD development, and to force compliance with UN resolutions and terms of the armistice after the FIRST Persian Gulf War. We invaded Iraq based upon known WMD development programs, his ongoing refusal to permit inspections and/or demonstrate compliance with promises he made to the world. We invaded IRAQ based upon best evidence that he DID have (AND USE!) WMD in past, was apparently continuing development, and was perceived as a threat to world and regional safety.
You didnt " hurt my delicate feelings" NOR did you actually talk about world events like an adult. You simply failed to demonstrate YOUR intelligence, based upon your analysis and recall of world events.
PLEASE READ THIS PART TWICE: We got attacked (twice) at the World Trade Center (93 and 2001) and Pentagon because of a fanatical islamic based terrorist group that pursues a course of violence and attack upon much of the western world. In general terms, they want to impose a Sharia Islamic fundamentalist rule on the rest of the free world, and countries such as US, Canada, England, Australia, France, Germany, and others are viewed as threats to their plans. We did NOT get "hit" on 9-11 because we were doing something "wrong." We are hated by OBL and his merry band of Islamofascist terrorists because we are large successful examples of how freedom and liberty WORKS.
You assert that we apparently caused OBL to develop his hatred for all things American because of the "presence of military bases" in SA. Nice to know you have such a direct understanding of how OBL thinks so that you know he really did all this because of military bases in Saudi Arabia? Yes, he doesn't like US influence and presence in the Middle East. He doesn't like that we support Israel and democratization. But gee JEB, we really didnt have much in the way of military bases in SA before 1990 when Saddam invaded Kuwait. We did have large oil company interests in the region, because SA and other oil rich countries prefer to have outside contractors do all the heavy lifting in drilling/exploring/pumping/refining the crude oil, and they prefer to just reap the profits.
It is the minority, fanatical Wahhabis that control religion and society in Saudi Arabia would cheer the departure of the infidels. You fail to discern the difference between the Muslim world’s rejection of modernization, secularism, and globalization. Actually, large numbers of people in the Middle East aspire to a higher standard of living and genuine democracy.
Please do some reading beyond Chalmers Johnson's book, perhaps some actual unbiased history. Blowback is a well crafted politically skewed political analysis and theory, NOT fact or unbiased history.
To echo Ron Paul's pathetic assertions that we were at fault or somehow deserving or asking to be attacked is ludicrious and insulting. AND WRONG.
I read this at the Paul Roberts (former Reagan Assistant Secretary at Treasury) website earlier and it reminded me of you:
Decency and intelligence have departed Republican ranks. The party’s shrunken base consists of ignorant and fearful people who believe Muslim jihadists are going to murder them in their beds, rapture evangelicals who believe that war in the Middle East is the prelude to their being wafted up to heaven, the military-security complex reveling in power and fortune, and resentful and frustrated people who can freely vent their anger and hate on "terrorists."
This collection of fear, delusion, greed, and resentment comprises the 30 percent of Americans who constitute Bush’s base. The Republican Party has made itself so unattractive that Democrats believe that it is now possible for a woman or a black to win the presidency.
http://www.vdare.com/roberts/070415_brownshirts...
your hopeless.
Trying to reason with you is similar to arguing with a drunk...;you just say same thing and get louder.
and then you close your posting with a link that seems at least to equate conservative republican thought with the Nazi party and brownshirts. Not original, not applicable, just more democrap rhetoric.
You can post again, but I concede that I cannot reason with your ears covered and mind closed. You have apparently decided that Ron Paul is right, we asked to be attacked, it is all our fault, there really is no Islamic jihadi threat, and in your revised history, there were apparently no WMD. Stay in your bubble, or keep chanting with Pelosi and Orion.
I'm under no illusion that Islam has any real chance of becoming the dominant religion in the US as you state OBL's goal is to impose his version on the "free world". Muslims make up a small percent of Americans and we are not being overwhelmed by a deluge of Muslim immigrants. It'll take at least 100 years for Islam to be a genuine threat (there'll probably still be more mormons than Muslims in the US at that time) and I'm not going to cower from a man in a cave, who has no army, navy or air force, in fear that he's going to impose his religion on me - or even on Israel.
In your comment (#6), you either intentionally or purposefully equate Saddam with OBL and say that Saddam invaded Kuwait even when we didn't have bases in SA as though to disprove my support of the blowback theory and OBL. Wrong person! OBL is not Saddam. Please try to keep the two straight. I was referring to OBL.
Regarding Saddam, gee I didn't realize that we invaded Ira
why suggest a book..you won't read it, or won't believe it. There are dozens. Check out Dennis Miller's website for a fairly robust book list you can select from yourself.
No one suggested you cower in fear...you seem to however suggest we just ignore the threat. Because you perceive it to be 100 years away. I dont think Islam will become the major religion in the US, but I do beleive that the factions of islamofascist terrorists WILL continue to rise as a threat unless interdicted. If you dont think he has an army of sorts, again, you are not paying attention.
In comment #6, I was responding you your prior allegation (#3) and I quote:
"We invaded Iraq, by mistake no less, in response to 9/11, didn’t we?"
My response was that no, we invaded Iraq due to other issues related to WMD and Saddam. You didn't reference OBL, you just alleged we went to Iraq in error and in response to 911.
Enough.
next time someone asks me for books, I'll refer them to Rosie O'Donnel's website. it'll be just as credible.
If I didn't know any better, I'd say it sounds like you haven't actually read any books.
less than nice. You ask for reading references, I give you a site so you can make own selection, and you respond with snide sarcasm. Enough. I selected Dennis Miller because his site is easy to use and has many different books from differing perspectives.
Obviously you are correct, I never read books. Never went to school. NO formal training in anything. Can barely operate a microwave. I get my news and world view from CNN and Time Magazine, the NY Times, and of course Jon Stewart.
And of course because my experiences, knowledge, and background provide me with a perspective far different than yours, you respond with snide insult. I grow tired of your nonsense. You are dismissed, like an unruly student that will not listen.
Jeb, you can post all you want, I have run out of patience for your smug insolence.
Ms U. I apologize for any agitation. We need to speak with the admissions office about better screening of students.
