  Geraldo Rivera really loses it here. He seems to be questioning the morality of having an immigration law at all. Otherwise, how could he accuse Bill O'Reilly of making a "political" point? Mr. Rivera is right in that morality is more important than legality - the obligation to obey the law is itself a moral one. But I don't recall many Liberals respecting that truth when it came to the invasion of Iraq. The "illegality" of that war seemed to be the show-stopping argument for them. As a non-American I cannot say that I find anything immoral in any sovereign state, such as the U.S., determining who can legally enter its territory. This would seem to be a fundamental requirement of the stable government of any country. To return to Iraq, for example, Liberals have argued that the Western model of representative government cannot be exported to the Arab peoples. Extracting any hint of racism from that statement, then surely the reverse should also be taken into account: uncontrolled (mass) immigration into the United States may put too heavy a strain on the cultural and political roots of the country by allowing the growth of a large adult population to whom the principles of republican government are alien.
