The Phelps crowd is easy to get rid of.

If the police refuse to guard them, the suddenly decide to no show.

It worked that way at funeral in Redmond, OR ... the local cops told them to dial 911 if they offend the people attending .... so they decided it wasn't worth it.

that is a terrific tactic...
the harder one that is also effective it to deny them MEDIA attention... which is their primary objective. If the local news won't help them display their hatred and idiocy, they try to incite retaliation from the crowd/family at funerals, so they then can SUE and harass more.

I personally hope that they all meet the ACTUAL God in the near future, so he(or she) can explain that their spiteful, nasty, hatefilled ideas and behaviors have earned them front row seats by the fire. But that is just my personal view.

The ACTUAL God? He or She? Man, at least Phelps and his band of nutjobs are consistent. They think that something horrible happened to someone because they deserved it. And they express the opinion by action, not by blog comments. In some respects they have more integrity than you - the ACTUAL God. Indeed!

You don't even know if your god is male or female.

If I read your post right you sound as if you actually side with the Phelps family. Have you actually taken the time to listen to these hate mongers? The filth that spews out of their mouths preaches nothing but HATE! And the fact that they attack family's while at the funerals of their loved ones, which if their favorite line of attack, is irreprehensible! In fact, their tactics are pretty much as extreme and radical as the Muslim extremeists in the middle east that are bound and detyermined to keep anyone without their views off of the face of the Earth!

Patriot Guard Riders, God bless 'em), were formed with two goals in mind. First and foremost, show respect for the fallen. Second, to shield the family's from protestors.

Now don't get me wrong. I do not like the direction that this country is headed. Politicians getting bought at every level by big business. Morals declining. The Family structures declining. Parents not teaching their children to take responsibility for their actions. The list goes on...

If the Phelps family had any decency at all, they would find someother way to get their message out.

My Reference to the ACTUAL God... is in REFERENCE and to make a DISTINCTION between the REAL ("ACTUAL") God that most of us worship/respect/acknowledge in some format or another, and the FAKE/UNREAL/WEIRDLY HATEFUL "god" that is cited and apparently worshipped by the lunatic followers of Fred "send him Help" Phelps and his disfunctional family.

As for the He/She reference... I was taking a moment to recognize that some of us may accord a more feminine persona on the God as they worship... and that I tend to believe that the Supreme Being that I worship may not have/need gender, and am not so damn arrogant as to presume that only a Male persona could possibly be the God.

But hey, if you think that the phelps clan is a better faith community because they take actions to harass and vilify (look it up, bonehead) the fallen heroes at military funerals or now the innocent college students and their families, I invite you to leave this blog community and express your "opinion by action, not by blog comments."

The phelps group is a spiteful, nasty group of parasites, seeking cash settlements from those they harass, seeking publicity, and causing emotional trauma to families in moments of tragedy.

The Phelps lot make me sick, I am from the UK and we had a TV program on over here about 2 weeks ago called 'The most hated family in America' and I was shocked. Its disgusting that they've managed to brainwash the younger members of the group. Their banners and signs make very little sense also.......I suspect that these ones might say "Virginia Tech FAGS" or "VT Fags Burn In Hell". These people are horrible. I am SERIOUSLY suprised that no one has taken that Grandad dude out yet. Maybe this will be the best time to do it??? Does that Grandad guy that leads the cult even attend these demonstrations?!?! I bet he fucks all the young girls in his 'cult' too. With so many guns available in the USA why oh WHY has no one shot this guy sooner??? Imagine if your child had died in the VT massacre and these chumps come along with signs saying that your child deserved it and that your child is a FAG and will burn in hell, apparently they called the Amish girls who got massacred 'WHORES' at their funeral. It makes me mad. Someone do the right thing and rid the earth of these scum sucking cunts.

James 1:13 clearly puts the lie to Phelps' horrible accusations. It says:

When under trial, let no one say: "I am being tried by God." For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.

"sign up"? Like the local softball league? You don't sign up to believe in Christ, and if you need to join a group to do it perhaps God doesn't want you on his team in the first place. However,I'm in no position to judge; a true believer understands they people have no real control over their fate or the fate of others, only the faith that God will lead them in the right direction. Perhaps, Michael, the answer you seek can be found through prayer. Open your heart to the Lord and you will be lead through the drakness. ;)

I'm a minister and have made a habit out of observing and understanding human behavior. In my time I've learned that some people use religion as a mask for something else that they would not want to express. I do not necessarily buy into their line that God hates America. I know He doesn't. What I see is a bunch of people, led by Phelps, who hate America and they've found that their perverted form of religion gives them a way to both express their hatred and look like innocent victims at the same time.

No person, after a common sense reading of the Bible could come away with the idea that hatred is the rule of the day. Only a person needing an outlet could do that.

It's not God that hates America. The Phelps klan hates America.

Its is going to be so funny when I am standing inside the gates of heaven watch you people burn because you forgot that it is actually okay to be nice to people. You think gay people are evil and that is your right. Carry on. But all that hate just because you think some people are going to help. Why not shut up and celebrate then? If your religion is so great why not try and stand up and show people the way so speak? Way waste your energy on those who you think are already doomed. What is the point in that? I tell you. You dont believe your god is strong enough to deal with different people so you hind behind hate because it is much easier to hate people then to actually be nice to them and try to get them to see it your way right? I understand. Not everyone can the integrity and is strong enough to let their beliefs speak for themselves. Hating is so much easier right? Also is gets more media. What a great idea. I can start a I hate other photographers website because I think I am better. Maybe if I hate them enough I can get more people to look at me! Wow thanks guys.

Radio Talkshow host Michael Gallagher has taken one for the team. He offered to host the westboro "baptists" (deliberately not capitalized) for 3 hours today 4-24, in exchange for them pledging NOT to attend/protest/"preach" their hatred at any of the Virginia Tech funerals/memorials. He has in effect given them a public platform, WITH AN OFF SWITCH, in exchange for shielding 33 families from their peculiar brand of nutroll hatred.

Motorcycle guy, not that I'm aware of. Mike Gallagher allowed Shirley Phelps and a few of her family members to have his full 3-hours of program last Monday in exchange for their agreement not to protest any of the funerals. It was painful to listen to, but I did so for the callers who blistered Shirley.
