Cannot think of a single reason NOT to support his nomination and candidacy. Even his presence in the election process would seem to elevate the debate and likely result in better field of choices overall. Only downside I can see would be for Mr. Thompson personally, for it is a rough and grueling ordeal for the candidate and his family.
